How to Repair Your iPad Touch Screen

How to repair the touch screen on your iPad

The Apple iPad, iPad 2 and iPad 3 are very sophisticated devices. You just have to open them up and take a look inside the sleekly designed tablet to see how the amazing brain of the device functions. One must be very careful, as sturdy as they feel it just takes one harsh drop or impact and the touchscreen may shatter. What happens when this dreaded occasion occurs? Well you can either take your iPad to repair specialists or you could have an attempt at repairing it yourself. Warning, this is not for the faint hearted.

Repairing the iPad yourself

I will focus on the iPad 2 as it is the trickiest, and if you can replace a touchscreen on the iPad 2, the others are a breeze. It is best to start at the bottom right corner about 5 cm in from the corner. I find the best tool to use is a narrow paint scrapper or a flat scalpel (The scalpel is more risky as it can easily cut important cables and I advise the paint scrapper if it is your first time.) You will also need a heat gun or hairdryer to heat the screen whilst you remove it. This helps to melt the glue on the inside. Be careful not to overheat the screen as it can damage the LCD underneath.

Be careful as the Wife cable is glued to the inside of the touch screen about an inch to the right of the home button. You need to slowly lift the touch screen away from the casing and detach the cable from the touch screen. Remember not to damage the plastic bezel around the outside of the touch screen. You can replace it, but if you are careful you can easily fit your opening tool between the bezel and touch screen.

Slowly move your opening tool around the iPad in an anti-clockwise motion while heating. The next danger zone is the volume/on-off flex cable in the top right hand corner of the screen. Work very slowly around this area as to not damage this cable; this is the cable that most technicians still manage to break every now and then. If your iPad is the 3G model then you need to detach both the Bluetooth and 3G modules at the top either side of the camera glued on the inside of the touch screen.

All you have to do is now loosen the bottom left corner and pull the touch screen away as if you are opening a book. Do this very slowly to pull the adhesive away. The touch screen flex cable is on the left near the bottom, be careful not to pull too hard on the cable as it still needs to be disconnected from the main board. You can now loosen all four screws around the LCD and once again lift the LCD out as if you are opening a book as the connector for the LCD is on the left. Disconnect the LCD using the thin gold clip and pull it out the board. You can now disconnect the touch screen and remove.

You now need to take note how the home button and camera are glued onto the touch screen and replicate it on the replacement screen. Remove all glass and adhesive from the frame. The best adhesive is the 3M double sided tape that is pre-cut out for the iPad. The trickiest part is to fold the cable inside the casing so it does not stop the touch screen from sitting flush. Have a look at the old one to see how it folds.

Taking it to an out of warranty repair centre

The second option is to find a third party repair centre. Service centers such as these have done this repair hundreds of times and are well equipped to do a quality job. Things you do have to consider are; does the service centre offer an in house warranty, this generally illustrates their confidence in their work. Some service centers can also take weeks to repair a device, this job shouldn't take longer than a day or two.

You can also search the reputation of the repair centre on website such as hellopeter and view how many compliments and complaints the company in question has.

Take the iPad back to Apple

The last possibility is to take the iPad back to Apple. What Apple normally does in these cases is they replace the device at the customers' expense and offer a 15% - 20% discount on a new device.

The upside to this scenario is getting a brand new device including a brand new warranty, the obvious down side to this situation is the cost involved in having to purchase a new device even though the discount offered is fairly substantial.

Ipad Glass Replacement Same Day

So you have your shiny new iPad, playing HD pinball, where do Wally, and countless other games, and possibly a little work as well. You place the iPad on the table, go to move your laptop, and forget that your iPad is still attached to it, down it goes and now you could be looking at a very expensive iPad repair. The good news is that your 1K or so investment (for the iPad 3G version) is likely very fixable.

Types of Damage - Most iPad repairs are the same as the sister iPhone which is damage by user fault i.e. dropped and mis-handled items. This wills likely result in the front glass cracking and if you are really unlucky maybe even the LCD as well. Generally the front glass, which includes the digitiser component, can be replaced relatively easy by a professional without too much fuss, most places around London can offer same day iPad repairs for this type of damage. The iPad LCD is also another commonly replaced component that can be replaced in about an hour or so.

Water Damage - Like all electronic devices the iPad does not play well with water. Most iPads that have had water damage just need to have their internal connectors checked and cleaned where required, and usually need the LCD replaced. It is a strange coincidence but speaking to one London iPad repairer, the LCD is a commonly needed replacement when your iPad has sustained water damage.

Back Case Buckled - The back iPad casing is quite strong however this can be buckled through miss handling which may also result in a broken glass and LCD as mentioned above. Generally a repairer will offer two options when needing the back casing un-buckled, they can replace the entire back casing, an expensive exercise, or they can attempt to bend the casing back. In the second instance you will usually still see a slight indent or marking where the bend was, but this is usually a much cheaper option. One iPad repairer mentioned that if they are replacing the front glass and the back casing isn't too buckled, they don't charge anything additional to bend it back.

iPad Repair Prices - Generally most iPad techs we spoke to offered same day repairs for common front glass and LCD repairs and water damage can take a bit longer depending largely on type of water damage i.e.

Cell Phone Repair - The Better Option

Cell Phone Repair - The Better Option
Cell phones have grown from being communication tools to a hot fad of the current generation. Everyone, regardless of age or financial standing, owns or wants to own one. With rapid development in technology, a cellphone is fast becoming a replacement for the computer. From iPhone, Blackberry, to iPad, the list of state of the art smartphones is endless. This increased variety has given users a range of prices to choose from, so more and more people own their own personal cellphones. The increased ownership results in an increased number of damages. Cellular phone repair has become an industry in itself. Cell phone repair shops are present everywhere now, but people prefer to replace their damaged or malfunctioning cell phone rather than getting it repaired. Here's why cellphone repair is the best option.

Cost

A new mobile phone will cost more than getting your damaged phone repaired. While you can get it repaired for less than a $100, you may have to cough up more than $1,000 for a new one, depending on your type and contract. Go for the latest and go broke! Cellular phone repair is a cost-effective option, but might take you more time than getting a new one. Still, it is better to get your broken phone fixed rather than paying a lot of money for a new device. Are you looking phone repair shops near me?

Data loss

Getting a new phone means you would have to transfer the data present in your damaged phone to the new one. Since your phone is malfunctioning or broken, you will experience loss of data. Going for cell phone repair is a good option as repair stores can get your broken phone fixed, as well as recover and retain all the data you have in your phone. Imagine losing the 250 contacts you had and having to build your contact list from scratch! Cell phone repair is the better option. Are you searching iphone 6 & 7 screen replacement London?

Environment

The more the number of mobile phones used, the more the environment is damaged. Cell phones create radiation and heat and add to the problem of global warming. Getting a new phone means you add to the number of mobile phones already in use. Cellphone repair is the environment-friendly option. No further harm is caused to the environment because of this. If your phone gets damaged or broken, visit a cell phone repair store rather than buying a new one! Are you looking phone repairs in London?

The arguments stack up in favor of cell phone repair, so you should always get your damaged or broken phone fixed rather than going for a new one. Are you looking macbook repair London?
